About RCDC Programs

The Rehoboth Community Development Corporation offers a variety of impactful programs that serve the community in meaningful ways, including youth mentorship and enrichment activities, free tax preparation, financial literacy workshops, and special events that bring people together. To keep these programs thriving, we are seeking dedicated volunteers who are passionate about giving back and helping others succeed. Whether you enjoy working with young people, offering financial guidance, assisting with events, or lending your skills in other areas, there’s a place for you to make a difference at Rehoboth CDC.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Income Tax Assistant

Do you have a passion for helping others? Enjoy working with numbers? Do you have an eye for detail?

Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference in your community at the same time. Volunteer to help your community by preparing taxes free of charge with Rehoboth Community Development Corporation’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

You will receive training to provide free tax help for low-to-moderate-income individuals, disabled, seniors and families who need assistance preparing their tax returns.

Volunteer Descriptions

Greeter

Responsible for welcoming and conducting the initial screening of the taxpayers and signing them in. Confirm that taxpayers have all the documents required to complete their tax returns.Answer non-tax-related questions.

Interpreters

Interpreters work with clients and tax preparers to provide interpretation assistance during tax preparation.

Tax Preparer

Responsible for providing tax return preparation services to eligible taxpayers. Prepare basic 1040 tax returns and related schedules. Interview the taxpayer to determine that all income, deductions, and allowable credits are claimed. Answer tax-related questions.

Quality Reviewer

Responsible for reviewing the tax return after the preparer has completed it. Reviews return with taxpayerAnswers tax-related questions

Five reasons to be a VITA volunteer

  • No prior tax experience is needed. Volunteers receive free training.

  • Volunteer in a rewarding, friendly, and safe environment.

  • Volunteer hours are flexible from mid-January through the tax filing deadline in April. Year-round from May through October.

  • Volunteer hours are flexible from mid-January through the tax filing dea

  • Volunteering for VITA provides practical life skills and hands-on job knowledge. IRS tax law certification and experience. An excellent resume builder.

Volunteers must commit to at least 25 hours during tax season.
